Job Description:

Background:  

  • Headquarters Air Mobility Command HQ AMC/A6 requires engineering support for Infrastructure and Operation, Voice Networks, Secure and Non-Secure Networking, Network transmission for both wired and wireless, and assured Command and Control (C2) voice/video/data systems.   
  • The engineering support provides end-to-end technology analysis, assessments, and review of all technical solutions, products, services, and capabilities to ensure all are consistent with Department of Defense (DoD) and USAF base area network architecture and standards.   
  • These projects provide direct support to the Services (Army, Air Force, etc.), Combatant Commands (COCOMS), Joint Staff as well as the DoD business and acquisition communities depending on network access.   
  • HQ AMC communications equipment and systems are in continual need of technology refresh and upgrades that encompass system components, software, Local Area Networks (LANs), Wireless LANs, Network Multiplexing, voice and supporting infrastructures.   
  • The end result is more efficient and effective technology investments and ultimately improved global, net-centric operations which are delivered through products, services, and capabilities to AMC bases  Position Summary:  
  • Provide engineering support to design, install, operate, survey, upgrade, and troubleshoot Storage Area Networks (SAN), Hyper-converged Infrastructure (HCI), Virtual Desktop Integration (VDI), and Cross Domain Solution (CDS). Evaluate new products/systems and provide recommendations to replace/upgrade HCI/SAN/VDI components during installations. Participate in working groups, technical conferences, and meetings as required.    Essential Job Functions:  
  • Deliver overall network engineering support for planning, designing, and evaluating various components of the NIPR/SIPR networks residing in the IPN.   
  • Track and provide status of the systems and provide end of life/end of support information and recommendations ensure the smooth seamless operation of components located in Installation Processing Node (IPN) to provide maximum performance and availability for users.   
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) and Secure View (SV) transport is required to include mobile device connections, facilitate the migration of data to the cloud. 
  • Coordinate the maintenance of various components located in IPN, investigate, and resolve network and hardware issues; research, assess, and evaluate current and future proposed systems, assist with resolving technical support problems and provide guidance on network design issues 
  • Develop, process, and submit system Change Requests to the appropriate agency; track, modify and elevate system Change Requests 
  • Work directly with product vendors and network operators to ensure new technologies are deployed as expected; submit authorization letters to external agencies in support of authority to operate.   
  • Implements patches and apply software updates in accordance with DoD directives (Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG), UCR). 
      Education/Certifications: 
  • Must have VM Ware certifications   Required Knowledge/Experience: 
  • Experience with building and maintaining Storage Area Network (SAN), background with Cloud Based Technology and Cloud Computing, Server Virtualization and Administration 
  • Knowledge of Secure and Non-secure network transmission systems and applications (wired and wireless) 
  • Understand interoperability issues between mixed types of network/equipment to include new technology dealing with the transmission of secure data (CSfC and Suite B  
  • Knowledge of data storage to include support in development and expansion of existing systems to support growth 
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of IT programs/project management to include requirements validation, cost proposals, business case analysis, methodologies, system development life cycle (SDLC), and sustainment 
  • Experience designing, configuring, and maintaining HCI and VDI software and hardware
